About the Africa Avian Influenza Information Center
Purpose: The USAID- funded Africa Avian Influenza Information Center is a website which facilitates the exchange of information and communication among multi-sectoral and international stakeholders and implementers of avian influenza programs and projects targeting the Africa region.
Specifically, this website will serve to:
- Disseminate program information and documents; and establish a document library, as contributed by interested participants and stakeholders;
- Post notices concerning planned events of interest, including meetings, conferences and trainings to the participating community;
- List and describe links to partner and other relevant websites, for reference; and
- Share questions and answers, with opportunity for discussion of issues of interest or concern via the discussion mailing list.
Participating Target Audience: The target audience for this information sharing website includes government departments and agencies, public international organizations, and private sector grantees and contractors interested in and active in avian influenza activities in Africa.
Origin of the Website Concept: The website was developed following the specific suggestions of many participants in the USAID/Africa Bureau-sponsored High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Program Partners Meetings held in Bamako, Mali ( Dec 3-5, 2007), Kampala, Uganda (March 3-5), and Johannesburg, South Africa (March 7-8) Participants included USAID, HHS/CDC, USDA, DoD, FAO, ILRI, AU-IBAR, WHO, private grantees and contractor organizations, and African state government representatives.)
